Bot Stop! they way to stop gold spammers!
i was thinking for either Guildwars and Guildwars 2 to add a new chat section. this section would be a place to click on links and such. this would not stop Gold Spammers but would just restrict them to a certain area. Then a Guild Wars admin can locate the "bot" and 'Termnate' it! now i here you say "What about whispers?" well, We you whisper someone with a link it would go to the link channel with a <--[username] and only you resive. so how will this stop bots? it won't it will give you the power to turn them off. so what do you guys think of this concept, its not the best but i think it could work, even temperarily.

imo, the best way to shutdown chat spam bots is to stop giving free trial keys to players.
EDIT: Just realized that someone else posted this same thread an hour ago. please post your idea in there instead of wasting space with an entirely new thread.

I Appolagize didn't even realize just logged on lol . the only problem with not giving free trials is that people won't buy Guildwars as much... there fore guildwras won't stop free trials. would a free trial per IP work... spose IP generator would own it but who would risk it?

Botters will modify the way they display URLs so as to avoid them being picked up by this. As quickly as a way to stop botters in implemented, a way to circumvent those filters will be figured out.

The reason there is so much spam in Ascalon id1 is because of free trial keys, but nowhere else. These guys make enough money to buy multiple copies NP. One spammer account is linked behind the scenes to at least 20 farmers.

I remember suggesting this on a bot discussion thread. Remarkably, a post with the idea showed up a day later. People nowadays. So unoriginal.
Trial Keys should not have chat options. Accounts that advertize gold should be banned. These are the two fixes that will stop spammers permanently.

Players who try out the game should be able to whisper others.
But why not simply limit the amount of whispers to let's say 25 different persons. That should be enough for a trial-player and would stop gold-spammers from whispering everyone entering an outpost.

I firmly disagree. People who are given the oppourtunity to cause chaos with no punishment given to them and no risk to themselves will take it, even if the 1% of honest players trying out the game will not. This is human nature and cannot be fought.

Anet need to just do what WoW does, DO NOT LET TRIAL ACCOUNTS WHISPER OR USE LOCAL CHAT! If honest players want to try the game out with friends, they can still use teamchat and guildchat.

When is everyone going to wise up and learn that nothing has ever been done to prohibit gold-selling/gold-farming?
Seriously, it's been a huge problem for almost 3 years now, and nothing has ever been done, or will ever be done. There are so many underhanded actions going on that the community doesn't know about that it would make your head spin.

If people can use local for trading, what hope do you have for keeping gold spammers to their channel?

w w w . fakegoldwebsite . c o m. You can get around any filter if you try. Won't really solve any problems if they change their spam to get around the filter.

You know if people actually didn't buy the gold crap there'd be no point for these bots.

They don't because if it was good to use, anyone could get rich by spending a few bucks.
This is an obvious hint that they are a rip-off.Kind of like porn comments you see spammed on youtube.

When they stick spaces in the URL, program the filter to strip out the spaces before comparing it to the list of blocked words. If they stick an invisible character in there to fool the filter, stick the invisible character onto the block list.
Yes they will keep getting round the filter, but every time they do they will mangle their URL. The more they mangle the URL, the harder it is for the potential buyers to figure out what to type into their browser. For instance if the spammer says www.f4k3g0ldw3bsit3.c0m how many people would figure out that the spammer was actually advertising www.fakegoldwebsite.com ?
And what happens when f4k3g0ldw3bsit3 is also added to the block list ?
If they buy a new URL (which costs them money) ANET just adds that to the filter. If they have to buy URL's too often then they become unprofitable.
So a filter should work if ANET is willing to constantly maintain it.

Why do people care about bots? Who cares if someone has more gold than you? They wasted there money in buying currency in a video game..they will never have girlfriends (Or boyfriends if it's a girl)..so let them have SOMETHING to look forward too.
And the people who spend hours to make bots...just to get them deleted and spend the time to make new accounts..let them go home every night to there mother and tell her that they made X amount of dollars by cheating in a video game.
Just my opinion i dunno..let losers be losers. It's not like Guild Wars is a serious game anyways..
